Independence Day #233

Just a small guest list; my parents and my wife's youngest brother and his wife and the three of us. All arrived around 3:30. Dad came in without his cane..didn't need it. We planned to use the Weber and the weather actually cooperated by providing a beautiful Pennsylvania day. I was a little worried about the wind (gusting to 18mph) but the grill was started without melting any vinyl. The original menu was going to be simple, burgers and dogs, baked beans and some store bought cup cakes for desert. That changed a bit:
  • Grilled shrimp skewered on basil and seasoned with yellow peppers, scallions, garlic and olive oil for an appetizer.
  • Hot Dogs
  • Corn on the cob (fresh)
  • Cole slaw (fresh)
  • Deviled Eggs (Home made)
  • Potato Salad (Home made)
  • BBQ Chicken
  • Fresh Cantaloupe
  • Holiday Cupcakes
  • Blueberry 'slump'
  • Coffee/Iced Tea
It took a little finesse to get all of the stuff to fit on grill, get the timing right and have it all come out on time, but I think it all worked out. (The first batch of Hot Dogs went a bit bit nuclear, but the second set was edible.)

We spent most of the afternoon on the deck enjoying the view and cool breeze, ate in the dinning room and relaxed afterward back out on the deck. We don't have a lot of space, but we seem to have enough. It was a good day

After everyone had left, my wife and I sat on the front steps and watched the show. The roar of the racers over at Grandview was overshadowed by the pops and cracks of fireworks activities. All of the big towns were at it; Eshbach, Schultzville, Barto, and of course Bally, and in the distance we could see the rockets from Red Hill, Hereferd and even Pennsburg. The most impressive was the show just out front. Here is a little sample...
