Kitchen Lights

We wanted something a bit different then the 'builder's package' for our kitchen light. One of the issues we had was that the existing fixture was a "down" light. The bulb was beneath the shade which caused a glare when trying to read the news paper while enjoying breakfast. We wanted an "up" light and decided we would really want a counter or bar style fixture. This combination is very hard to find. We looked at a dozen glossy catalogs, visited at least that many stores and couldn't find anything we liked. Usually the fixture would be very close, (right finish, right size) but had down lights.

One day on her way home from work she stopped at a little shop with a LOT of inventory. The next Saturday morning I went with her to see the treasure and agreed that it met our requirements, if it could be grouped in a gang of three and hung from a canopy that matched. Searching through metal samples confirmed that a three post canopy was possible, so we went for it. Each pendent is about a foot across and spaced about a foot apart.

Yesterday all of the parts were assembled and hung. We like the look. BTW, you can't dim the new energy efficient compact florescent bulbs.

We also finished the drapes. The valance rod forced us to remove the entire system and replace it with another. The living room is coming together, and we can now watch the TV when the sun is shining.

Penn State lost in the final minute of the game to Iowa...what a disappointment.
