Bedecked

We finally made a decision about the deck. A lot of time went into researching materials, prices, and building techniques. The work went relatively fast once the building permits were obtained from the Township.

The deck builder arrived early one morning to dig the holes. A large 'one-man' auger started the holes, but rocky soil had him augment the machine with a long metal pry bar and a lot of muscle. Next a highly trained government official arrived to measure the spacing and depth (3') of the holes. Highly trained because he took no more then three minutes to ascertain the six holes met government standards. Amazing in that he didn't even need a measuring tape to know that everything was strictly to code.

The concrete footers were next. Two men, a wheel barrow and a lot of concrete. This took about a half day. The next full day was devoted to construction. All of the pressure treated frame work was done and the trex decking material screwed into the joists. Another half day was spent installing the Artisan railing system.

A nice job, and he was a pleasure to work with. I enjoyed sitting in my office, taking conference calls while watching all of the pieces and hard work come together.
