Shingles and Siding

Day 43 of the build

I went out to the site over lunch to find three contractors working independently on the house. Cooling and heating equipment sat in the garage while preparations were made in the basement for installation. A roofing guy struggled to get his air compressor started while three others climbed ladders with bundles of shingles on their shoulders. A large truck with a crane extended outriggers prior to lifting a large box of siding onto the front yard.

I called the PM this morning to ask for a framing change. The standard floor plan includes a window over the kitchen sink to view the backyard. Adding the morning room eliminates the window, but keeps the opening as a 'pass through' to the additional room. We feel that is just wasted kitchen cabinet space. I asked Mark to see if we could close that off and he agreed to check with his boss.

We are also disappointed with the bank of windows in the Morning Room. While it was explained that Pennsylvania code changes forbid the use of windows low to the floor, we still expected the larger ( 3 over 3) size, instead of the smaller ones installed.

Otherwise, I'm delighted with the progress being made.
