Obsolescence

One of the very heavy boxes we have been lugging around from house to storage to home has been record albums (vinyl). A few others have been VHS tapes. Fortunately we don't have a huge collection of DVDs.

In assembling the HTS in the living room, we were perplexed on what to do with all this stuff. After finding one of our tape players, I hooked it up to the CRT TV set to test the connection. I put in "The King and I" (Yul Brenner) and found that I immediately had an audience. The sound was great from the new speakers, and the picture looked pretty darn good. OK, that was a keeper.

Next I came across the Technics FGservo SL-BD22 neatly packed away in a box labeled "old electronics". After the success with the video tapes, I decided to try out the turntable. I pulled out "Three Dog Night" and found that album sounded really VERY good!

So, as I contemplate when I should invest my hard earned cash into 1080p and BluRay, I can at least enjoy some good tunes coming from the forgotten 'junk' in these new surroundings.
