Grab Bars

The big news this weekend was the damn snow. Started late Thursday evening and continued all day on Friday. We probably got about 3 inches, enough to make driving a mess. Freezing rain followed, frosting the fields with a crunchy sheen. Pennsylvania snow is uncivilized. You are actually expected to rid the walkways and driveways of the stuff immediately following the storm. I incorrectly assumed I could wait for spring, but peer pressure from over zealous neighbors finally got the best of me so I was forced to shovel the stuff by mid afternoon on Saturday. There is a nice ending to this story however, my immediate neighbor saw us struggling and came over with his gas powered snow blower. Less then ten minutes later the drive was cleared. (and, he also offered to keep it clear for the rest of the season!)

The problem with installing grab bars is that you have to drill holes into pristine bathroom tile. A smart man would have had the builder install blocking behind the tile so that a solid backing was available, I didn't have the foresight to do that. If you can't find a wall stud in the right location giant toggle bolts are available. These require giant holes (1.25 inches). Otherwise the installation is pretty straightforward. I put two in the hall shower, and added a height adjustable hand held shower spray as well. It worked out well, but I still need to adjust the limp water pressure.
